Useless app

NDI is selling optical measure systems for medical procedures. An app for measurement on a Phone? How accurate is that? Come on? If we want accuracy, get a laser machine (to measure things.)

MobiGage NDI Automates Inspection ($999.99)
If an app solves a real business problem that costs more than the app price. Then the app is not expensive even if it costs $999.

Such is the case that seem to be with MobiGage NDI Automates Inspection ($999.99). It seem to solve a real business problem for a niche industry vertical.

If a public office or an NGO is making this app I can understand that they'll keep the pricing low. If its a private sector innovation and some garage developers have made that for profit motive than I dont see why they should keep the price very low as its for their own bread and butter and to pay the bills. In this case then some NGO or association should intervene to sponsor the app for the needy subset as speach impairment does not imply low affordability necessarily.

Safe session
Encrypted Voice over IP by Safe Session. Cant this be used by terrorits?

And if not, because there are legal intercpets in place by agencies. Then its not secure enough in the first place.

Ha, by far the most pointless app on this list! And the App Store description says it's "worth every penny"... unless you can use the app to actually make it snow, I'd disagree.

@progman: if there weren't different versions from different developers then it would not be a diverse, and competitive marketplace. If it weren't a competitive marketplace then cost of phones and services would have been higher because the company (Apple, Google) wouldn't be making profits from app stores.

@whoopty: true. They aren't really copycats though, as they dont use the same code or source api and packages but they are rather influenced and inspired by the originals.

I didn't realize Angry Birds and Farmville were copy cats. That's interesting. I'm assuming the originals were written by garage developers that didn't do much for marketing.

Unfortunately that seems to be the way it goes with the app stores. As soon as something popular comes along, a thousand copycats appear. 

Hell, even the bigger developers are guilty of this. Some of the biggest success stories are rip offs. Angry Birds was a copy of Crush the Castle, Farmville was a copy of Farm Town and Tiny Tower was ripped off from Dream Heights and so on.
