Windows 10: Babies, Dogs and Baby Seals
I really enjoyed your list Dave ! And it is interesting that Marketing decided to go the baby route.

What were dogs and baby seals too expensive ?

I think I have a good slogan, Windows 10: A better way to use rectangles.

Another one could be "Windows 10, because 9 is too mainstream" this could be the sarcastic touch as well since Microsoft doesn't know how to market stuff.

@David: I agree. Microsoft's tech marketing ideas are ancient. Consumer base is changing and marketing ideas should change as well. Look what they did with the windows phone OS. Good marketing would have seen Microsoft riding over smartphone sales.

@vnewman2- Ha! I like the Seinfeld idea. I hear you. I think one of the funny things is that for so long they were the only game in town so their marketing wasn't that important, especially when basically they could ride on the marketing of PC makers since every PC sold just had Windows on it. It might be a skill they never learned and still need to acquire. 

On the other hand, as i mentioned in the article, some of it has to do with the sad state of tech marketing in general.

@David - Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Windows fan and I also like what I've heard about the Windows 10 features.  I just feel as if they always miss the mark in their advertising.  

The same is true for their store design...I live near a MSFT store and it looks like the Apple store moved out they put up a MSFT sign.  (Actually, it doesn't even say MSFT, it is just the logo).  I just want MSFT to stop trying to be someone else and just be themselves, that's all.  It doesn't feel genuine to me.  I'd rather see a bunch of people my age sitting around an office emailing Seinfeld clips to each other through Outlook :)

Still, I don't think it is that bad. I like what i see from Windows 10. I think they're on a bit of a roll there. I think they may have paid the director of this ad a bit too much though.

@David - somehow, luckily, I missed this until now and I'm speechless.  In a bad way.  It's terrible.  Cringe-worthy.  They are trying way to hard there in Redmond.  It reeks of desperation.  

How about this one: Windows: We keep turning up like a bad penny!  (One of my favorite "old-time" expressions)

@mdavis651- That's funny, but to be fair to them, isn't all software an itterative process? Will we ever get to a final "right" OS? We can always improve, right?

@whoopty- I think the goal of most of this advertising is to make someone feel like they need to upgrade without making them feel pressured. Basically, you create a sense that people are missing out on something cool. In this case, the clear message was, "this is the life your children will lead. Don't you want to lead it too before you die?"
