Re: Data at their finger tips
I also find it interesting how instinctual tablet navigation is for children my daughter of ten teaches me faster nav tricks! It will be interesting to see if this transfers to more computer proficiency and greater interest in tech careers as we know even though we had a generation of internet kids we still have a lack of technology professionals.

Data at their finger tips
While my tablet doesn't have a binky attached it's fairly drool and drop proof. I have an otter case on the tablet and phones. My kids used phones or tablets to look at pictures, watch short TV trailers, you tube videos and play educational (and not so educational) games since they could sit up. Now that my oldest can spell, the sky is the limit as she uses the web for her encyclopedia whether it's to learn where Brazil is or how to draw a panda. My toddler can use the tablet about as well as I can. Young kids today expect data at their fingertips. In just a minute is way too late. Of course this has led to interesting conversation that my parents never had to have, like why you can't post a picture of your siter on the toilet and you shouldn't post where you in your lego tutorial.

Implications for the future

Dave very interesting stats and cute pictures! I wonder how much of what the very young are interacting with is just streaming video of their favorite TV show vs. and app or game. It would also be interesting to see how these kids develop in their careers hopefully we will see more women enter IT careers as a result of early exposure.

Re: Next Gen
I think is it not new that the new generation latches to whatever new technology it is launch.  Smartphones with touchscreen are just very easy to use compared to non touch screen phones.  It would be interesting to know what new demands such kids will have on the workforce.  I guess parents now are very busy that they give their smartphones to their babies.  Whatever happen to given babies a doll to play with, may be a there is a doll app for babies.

Next Gen
The next generation of digital natives are going to be looking out for the newest touch-enabled devices. They think things like keyboards are just antiquated.

I wouldn't disagree with that either. It's just thet newer input types have not yet been developed – but when they are it the next generation will certainly latch onto them.
