Re: Augmented drivers
@Brian.Dean, I would say it all depends on many factors in play...

as let say delivery root could be in bad/high crime area and e.t.

also hope others could put they two cents in :)

Re: Augmented drivers
Logistics always seems like a great field for the deployment of technology. However, I did not imagine that train routes would also require monitoring -- UPS is doing a wonderful job.

Also, it is nice to see that UPS has also researched drone technology. There was a point where it seemed that Amazon was the only player that was looking into the technology and they might become the largest logistics firms that employs drones for delivery. I feel that advancements in autonomous technology and maybe, an efficiency gain in battery technology will make drones more competitive.

change for the sake...
Change for the sake of change is foolish. However, if your changes are data supported and lead the organization into spaces that better address customer concerns that is the true definition of innovation. And, CIOs should be in the drivers seat as this unfolds. Peter Fretty, IDG blogger working on behalf of CSC

Automated but...
All the automation in the world won't help if the package is delivered busted up & UPS won't honor the insurance taken out on same.   Perhaps some of the automation could be spent on training of the humans not to use fragile packages as footballs, or install rails on their floor-to-floor delivery belts so packages don't fall off  the belt & bust up...  I used to think they were the best...  my how they have fallen (no pun intended)

Augmented drivers
It's amazing what UPS has done to not only give you data on your package but predict issues before they occur so you can re-route it. It's a wonderful example of technology benefiting both the customer and the company.

Of course the 'augmenting drivers' comment made me think of UPS cyborg drivers of the future.
