Re: Open Source is Superior
I was thinking the same, but have in mind that to compare two different operating systems in security terms must be at the same popularity level. (as the popularity and uses increases the potential attacks).

Re: Open Source is Superior
I really have always thought open source provided better security because it has more eyes on it. With proprietary software you have the challenge of not being sure who knows what. In the open source world, flaws are there to be exploited and for the community to figure out patches.

"But, I think it's far to early in the game for that to happen"

@Gary: It may seem to be very far away, but I don't think it really is. I think we're moving towards maturity stage as far as IoT is concerned and we shall see much more developments like the establishment of proper standards and structures happening soon.

"Regardless of the current security holes, I'm sure Linux will be significantly more secure for IoT than Windows."

@asksqn: Are you saying that because Linux generally has a lesser number of viruses and malware than Windows? I think that's only because developers don't make viruses for Linux platforms because so few people use it. It's not worth it. Other than this reason, I don't think Linux has any special in-built security feature that can prevent it from attacks.

Re: Open Source is Superior
Left to itself, there will always be forks in the road (pun intended) for any open source system. It's up to the manufacturers to set standards that "things" to be attached to the IOT must adhere to. But, I think it's far to early in the game for that to happen

Re: Open Source is Superior
@asksqn,

Better performance too. Not that it should make too much of a difference now that Windows servers come in core editions (no GUI).

Open Source is Superior
Regardless of the current security holes, I'm sure Linux will be significantly more secure for IoT than Windows.
