Exactly!
IoT is about how we use it not the things that are involved. Even though machine learning will ultimately handle some of the routine decision making, the most exciting part of an IoT environment is that it will empower the information user with stonger data base to make more meaningful decisions capable of strategically transforming products, services, etc. Peter Fretty, IDG blogger working on behalf of Cisco.

Re: IoT
@SunitaT0: I agree with you, I really don't think IOT is necessary, it may have some perks and self learning attributes to it, but really though we could do without it. However what we do need is the analysis of data.

Re: IoT
Some people argue if IOT really is necessary, what necessary is analyzing and running tests on data sets, IOT isn't important as much as Data is, and the way to have more data at disposal is throught IOT.

Re: IoT
IOT was always about the sensors. Connecting sensors to the clouds for intelligent analysis of structured data sets collected by the said sensors! Now if we are talking about entities ten "things" do have sensors in them and are themselves contributing to the IOT framework so yeah, it shouldn't be Internet of Sensors. It should be Internet of Things, because we are talking about the entity.

Re: IoT
@Danielcawrey I agree. It really is about the sensors rather the things. But I guess IOS was already taken as an acronym.

Re: IoT
Daniel, no more sore than the Internet should be called "The Internet of Servers." If you read the piece, you'll see that the argument is about where organizations need to spend their time and money, and that isn't on the sensors, which are technologically basic and less expensive than putting them to good use.

Re: IoT
If you don't have readings, there's nothing to analyze. If you don't analyze, the readings serve no purpose. IOT is really just a sort of slogan, but a clever, catchy one, I'd say. But, I still wonder where all the internet bandwidth is going to come from in order to bring in all that priceless data so that it can be analyzed
