Re: The Zuckster and FB For Work
@Technocrati - I agree with you completely.  I don't like to mix business with pleasure and I don't want my social media to try to do so either.

And I think it is all the more aggrevating because the lines are already so blurred between work and leisure as it is in so many other respects, why add this to the mix?

It's like trying to make the "Real Housewives" series into a Docu-drama.  It just doesn't fit.

@vnewman2- Somehow I missed this comment until now. That is worse than asking for a Red Rider BB Gun and being told you would shoot your eye out. I think that might be the most tragic Christmas story ever told. I'm seriously thinking about trying to track down Leif Garrett and getting him to come visit you and play the whole record for Christmas next year.

The Zuckster and FB For Work

When I saw the Rick Springfield and Leif Garret reference I had to read on - only to find that Zucky is at it again.   FB for Work ?  Really ?

It is amazing how FB is trying to fit a college based app into the real world.  Since I don't use FB I can be amused at this latest effort  to corner users into constant use.

With the huge numbers they already have FB has for the most part achieved this goal.  So why get over your skis Zucky with the workplace idea ?

Well the day Zucky went public was the day FB for Work was born.

@David - Can I still declare my love of Rick Springfield and Leif Garrett on Facebook for Work?

Yes, yes you may.  I have a story for you.  When I was 8 years old I asked my parents for the new Leif Garrett album for Christmas.  Why you ask?  Because "I was made for dancin'" - sounds like you were too!  Anyway, you know what I got?  Perry Como's Christmas Album.  I've recovered after years of therapy. :)

Back to the matter at hand.  Facebook at work?  Heck no.  Why take something you do for fun and spoil it by tying it into work?  I can only imagine all the serious and mundane facebook posts:  "Anyone want to read my latest TPS report??"  Or  "Hey, check out the new coffee cups in the breakroom!"  #Javajunkie #CaseoftheMondays.

boo.

What's the value here?
When I first got a Facebook account I did it with the idea to have a place for clients to find me. But it quickly devolved into a random set of posts from 2nd cousins and high school friends. I don't even bother checkingit anymore mush less posting to it. I really can't see what value facebook brings to an app for work. I don't need more funny cat videos, or political rants, or pictures of someone else's food or vacation. Even if the privacy concerns were fixed, what would be the point of a facebook for work app?

Re: Facebook for Work -- Jury Still Out?
@TerryB- An excellent question. I think that's part of it. Because that document needs to love on past that first interaction. Same with a lot of other documents. I would imagine all of those pictures we see on Facebook would become files and data on Facebook for Work.

There's also knowledge transfer. Hey, this team is working on X client. Anyone have experience with X?

Most companies have internal wikis of varying success. I'd see this taking over that function.

Re: Facebook for Work -- Jury Still Out?
This just makes me wonder what qualifies for work anymore? Exactly what is the "work" Facebook would do? You post: Hey George, take a look at this Excel and tell me if looks good. George posts back: Looks great Dave!

Is that what qualifies for work anymore?

Re: Facebook for Work -- Jury Still Out?
@jastroff- Actually, I'm quite happy. But if I'm going to go in against something, I like to go all in. :)

Seriously, I like the idea of finding a way to make it more secure. And if it was, I think it is a good solution. But given the various business relationships, I suspect that they may be frozen out of those sorts of potential solutions. Also, i suspect Zuck is going to to go it alone as he usually does.
