This private cloud about student behavior analytics
I think this Apollo implementation, Brian, is primarily about understanding student behavior and improving student retention. I will revisit the subject at a future date and see how they stand on online classroom automation.

Re: For now, private cloud works for this enterprise
@Charlie, I wonder if it would be fair to say that the education sector is viewing electronic education as the most important present requirement and are trying to find the formula that works best. For instance, whether online education is better than, traditional education, or a hybrid approach is more favorable, and/or the value that MOOC adds (the educational aspect of social media). The analysis of data can only answer these questions, helping to establish the first provider of education with these answers as the player that dominates the market, once the market stagnates then, providers will look at the cost-benefit analysis in closer detail.

@danielcawrey you're right about schools wanting to improve retention. A lot of research has gone into that, and they do try various solutions, including early warnings systems to catch danger signs before the student actually drops out.

Re: For now, private cloud works for this enterprise
I think a lot of schools would want to find ways to help struggling students and improve rentention.

Here's hoping that using these private cloud technologies acutally enables Apollo to figure a system out for making that a reality.

For now, private cloud works for this enterprise
The Apollo Education Group's private cloud includes a self service portal. The early beneficiaries were developers, who could self-provision servers, access a catalogue of existing IT services and do their testing without holdup. This private cloud has only been in operation for 8-9 months and it's hard to quantify the gains yet. Also, Sajor was remarkably frank in saying for now private cloud, maybe public cloud further down the road. Was that just trying to avoid VMware thinking it's got this customer all locked up?
