Why a two-tier public cloud set of offerings will emerge
Right, Tom. I don't think Amazon can continue to expand its services and also charge the bare bones infrastructure prices. It's made a good bet on a full suite of cloud services and keeps innovating on top of them. The bare-bones, lean infrastructure players is missing the suite but can get developers with their bargain basement rates.  DigitalOcean appeals to developers with a $5 a month virtual server; Atlantic.net, $.99 a month.

Maybe when Amazon grows its profit margins enough to afford to compete with bare bones setups.

We're headed for a two-tier public cloud system? Really?
Does anyone else think we're headed for a two-tier cloud infrastructure: full service, such as Amazon, Google, SoftLayer and Microsoft, plus a minimalist tier of fast, $5 a month servers? Won't Amazon just at some point offer the same thing at a lower price and blow them out of the water?
