Re: Gorilla glass on all smartphones

Really funny to hear that Corning's "next-generation" glass will be even that much better.   Why do I have the feeling that "next-gen" was already available when "first gen" was used ?    Well, it would be nice if Corning and Apple would recognized that we are not all stupid.

Apple users rejoice - I use Samsung myself and have never had an issue, even after some really fierce "hater" induced drops my Samsung has never had a crack ( thank goodness) maybe Samsung was using Corning's "next-generation" glass - generations ago.

Re: Gorilla glass on all smartphones
@ SachinEE.  Yes, you are right. I also did notice of all the business which was created by repairing smartphones.  It is not to the advantage of companies of making such devices more durable.  Otherwise, there wouldn't be a need to get new smartphones all the times.

Gorilla Glass 4
If only the companies thought about this before they made gorilla glass 3, then gorilla glass 4 would have been easily sculpted out without much design principles employed.

A stronger glass can ensure that many people would be buying smartphones without any second thoughts. I did not want to change my lifestyle from the Nokia i owned to the Nexus 5 that I recently bought because of the fear that a screen replacement costs 1/3rd of the phone, which is a lot.

Re: Gorilla glass on all smartphones
@pedro: what if this is a marketing strategy? What if companies already have the answer to cracked glass screens and are not bringing this to the market because they want to make a couple billion of dollars by selling new screens? Makes you think.

Gorilla glass on all smartphones
This is really great news.  My cousin has an Iphone 6 and after 2 weeks of usage it is already cracked.  I think this is something that will benefit companies as well; if they can market a smartphone that is more durable than their competitor it can really shift consumer consumption from one vendor to another.  smartphone companies should really add this criteria in their device specification, how durable it is against cracking. If drop what will be the likelihood it would crack, apple losses on this one, 100%.
