Eric's description of the QR based payment app gets at the issue for me -- firing up an app isn't easier than pulling out a credit card and swiping it. It's harder. So I don't think there will be much impact from any retaliatory boycott by the Aple forum community, but I do think people will pretty soon look at handy phone-based payments, whether Apple Pay or another, as a convenience that's part of where they choose to shop.

Will CVS and Rite Aid see any financial fallout because iPhone users choose to shop elsewhere? We'll see. There's certainly a ton of iPhone owners in forums making threats to that effect.
