A true friend and mentor
I have so many memories of my "adventures with Eric," and I am so saddened to learn of his untimely departure. When he and John Dodge hired me as a PC Week beat reporter -- back when the venerable Dan Farber was still EIC -- I became part of something more than an editorial staff. It was a family. He taught me -- and I know many others -- what it means to be a mentor, that a boss can also be a friend, and many other personal and professional lessons I will never forget. There was very little he wouldn't do in the interest of good journalism or just a good time. In fact, he brought those concepts together for me, and in so doing, helped define a path for my life and career. My heart goes out to his immediate family, and also to those of us in the extended family and fraternity of people who had the privilege to work for and with Eric. He will be sorely missed.

Sorry to hear this.
Lundquist was a great writer.  It was saddening to see this news on my Facebook feed from people who knew him well.

RIP, Eric.

Eric
Eric was a true gentleman and a great editor. I had the privilege of watching him work for a few years at eWeek, and he conducted himself in business as I imagine he conducted himself in all other aspects of his life: with incredible digity, grace, and humor. He'll be dearly missed by all.

Re: Eric - You will be greatly missed. You were such a promoter of my publications and work as a CIO
@Michael: OMG, you made me laugh out loud at the memories of being live on that weekly show. Eric didn't care about such niceties as hair and makeup, if you were around and coherent enough to speak, he'd throw you in front of a camera. Half the time, I ended up looking like I was in a hostage video. But he'd always say "great job" when it was done.

Video! Who can forget his TV programs with Tyler Pyburn?

I had to drive up to Canton, Mass. once because Eric was out of town and they needed someone on camera. Good times!

Re: Eric - You will be greatly missed. You were such a promoter of my publications and work as a CIO
@Michael: As he did with so many people, Eric is the one who brought us together and got us working on videos in the "studio" at Ziff. I doubt we can count how many people in the business can say they know one another because of Eric. His wit and enthusiasm will be missed.

Re: Eric - You will be greatly missed. You were such a promoter of my publications and work as a CIO
Eric was a great editor and thinker. I last saw him at the Interop show, and he had plenty of wry commentary on Cisco's big announcement event.

What I remember most is that, every time he visited the Ziff offices, he'd poke his head into the room I shared with Sal Salamone and say, "Here's the brain trust!" and "The brain trust is in session!" The name stuck. We may've been the brain trust, but he was one of the original members. He also made a point of thanking me -- several times -- for a piece of writing that he used to explain certain concepts to executives in the field. He didn't need to credit me, but he did. He will be missed.
