Re: Users win
You are absolutely right - the end user is the final winner. But there is one trend we need to pay attention. With the lower price of cloud vendor offer, will the support level get deteriorated? We don't want to sacrifice the support level for reaching higher price cut.

Why is Support so neglected?
Art,

In the beggining of your Blogpost; You said Support is Getting Neglected with most Cloud/IT Providers today.

My Question is more along the lines of why is that so?

My are companies refusing(or in some cases unable) to Spend more on Support?

Is this Company Policy?

Is Support not something Consumers give High-Priority to(as long as you are getting the lowest costs)?

So many Questions I was hoping you would help answer them.

Many Thanks!

Re: The Mobile connection
SusanN,

Actually it won't make difference to Mobile Apps and their Deployment.

Where Cloud Infrastructure will definitely score is in taking care of Patching Cycles ,Real-time Demand Provisioning as well as smaller Bugs.

If you have a Business where you clearly know demand spikes up only at a Particular time of the Day or Year;it really makes no sense to Buy up that much Space in-house for your DataCentre.

Would rather outsource the Extra Demand to Specialist Providers.

I would in fact be more wary(I am in Enterprise IT);of Apps which came directly of the Cloud if they have'nt been Checked/Audited first by my Team.

When it comes to In-House Apps I am more relaxed.

Regards

Ashish.

The Mobile connection
@Art: This prediction is spot on: Next year, I'm willing to bet that moving apps to, or creating apps for, mobile devices will make its way to the top of this list, again leaving IaaS/PaaS adoption with increases at 3 to 5 percentage points.

It leads me to wonder whether the movement toward mobile app integration could in fact end up being a driver for IaaS/PaaS adoption. Wouldn't a cloud-based infrastructure utlimately make it easier to enable mobile access to corporate apps or to build mobile apps?

Users win
We win the storage wars. A 256 GB USB is finally affordable enough to serve as a backup for my laptop. That's as much storage space as I need and desk space freed of a 3.5" HDD.
