re: Randy Mott Named General Motors CIO
HP's internal IT systems are a complete and utter frustrating mess. The businesses that had to relinquish control of their IT departments five years ago in a massive cost-cutting frenzy are no longer supported by corporate IT and are now having to staff up to keep the businesses running. It will take years to rebuild HP's IT infrastructure thanks to Randy Mott. Get ready GM, your best and brightest IT personnel will be leaving in droves when the economy takes hold.

I work at HP. I have survived Fiorina, Hurd, Apotheker, and Mott. People were dancing on the tables when Randy left. Other comments on this article are right on. He ruled by fear and intimidation. He displayed a total lack of trust and respect for HP employees. HP IT still has open sores from Randy's tenure at HP. I hope GM realizes what they are getting with Mr. Mott. For the slash and burn tactics that he employs, he is way overpriced. I feel sorry for GM employees that must interface with Mott and for those that may be laid off by the inevitable restructuring (downsizing) of IT that will surely come.

re: Randy Mott Named General Motors CIO
ItGs amazing how the press continue to buy the Randy Mott hype. Yes he cut the costs of the IT department, but a lot of that cost was simply transferred into the business units. He would shut down shadow systems without providing a solution so the systems went under ground or were replaced by manual work around requiring extra labor.

Mott was highly unpopular because his organization took on his prima donna persona; they were non-responsive, embracive and arrogant. Because of cost cutting they provided poor service on transformation programs causing disruptions to the business.

One question to the press; did it occur to you that there may be a connection to HPGs current supply chain challenges and Randy Mott?

re: Randy Mott Named General Motors CIO
Every time I read more about Randy I wonder how much the writers really know. Randy Mott simply did a slash and burn wipe of the IT departments, wherever he goes he leaves disaster behind. His extreme short term plans only hurt companies long term. IT budgets and groups can be trimmed in many cases, without dismanteling or crippling the infrastructure needed to maintain an acceptable level of IT. Its this attitude that is creating the issue and GREED in this country and putting good people out of work, to line a few pocket books !!!
