@MukVic--I would say that most of the benefits are trivially proven: because you can get infinite resources (on the public cloud at least), if you can design your application to scale horizontally, it will be more scalable and more fault-tolerant.  If you have massively variable workloads, the cloud will be cheaper (at least at some variance, like from 10 servers to 10,000 servers).  On the security side, the (public) cloud should be practically more secure because public cloud providers are subject to far more security audits than any on-premises data center (or even the standard colo data center).  Also, some (public) cloud providers have much granular security permissions, which should enable a more secure deployment.
