The notebooks, targeted at SMBs, include integrated optical drives for watching movies, playing music, or installing software; new multimedia features; and 802.11 wireless LAN and 10/100 Ethernet on all models.
Lenovo unveiled its first ultra portable widescreen notebook PC Wednesday.
The Lenovo V100s weigh 4 pounds and have a 12.1-inch widescreen. They are part of the 3000 series, which offers power, convenience and affordability for small business owners.
"They want performance, reliability and value, but they also want to have fun," Marc Godin, vice president of worldwide marketing, Lenovo's notebook business unit, said in a prepared statement. "As small business professionals become more mobile and proficient in the latest PC technologies, we want to give them the ultimate widescreen ultra portable computer that meets the needs of their business demands while providing a unique and fun computing environment."
The notebooks include Intel Core Duo processors, integrated optical drives for watching movies, playing music or installing software, new multimedia features, and integrated 802.11 a/b/g/ wireless LAN and 10/100 Ethernet on all models. They offer Bluetooth on select models.
The V100 includes a one-button system recovery for catastrophic failures from viruses and malware, automatic updates for peak performance and easy connectivity for wired or wireless set up for home office, office and leisure use.
A VibrantView display offers sharp contrast, crisp images, increased color depth and wider viewing angles. The wide screen offers up to 20 percent more data space and about four more spreadsheet columns than a standard 12-inch display.
The V100 also incorporates Lenovo's award-winning full-sized keyboard, a 5-in-1 multi-card reader for downloading digital pictures from multiple types of memory cards, three USB ports, a 1394 and VGA port. A fingerprint reader for easier management of passwords is available in select models.
Other features include two microphones for echo reduction, forward facing stereo speakers for playing and recording audio and a 1.3 Megapixel camera, available on select models. The V100 also comes with a combo or DVD recordable drive.
It also offers a single menu driven interface for easy access to the whole system, as well as an "instant on" button, which allows users to enjoy media without first logging onto Windows.
The design is part of a larger Lenovo strategy to target the needs of small business owners without IT staffs, said Frank Kardonski, worldwide product manager for Lenovo 3000, said during an interview Tuesday.
The new widescreen notebooks come with IBM services and support. They are available immediately through Lenovo business partners and directly through Lenovo's Web site. Prices start at $1,099.
