As today's bMighty ANTenna points out, security giant Symantec is making a move into small and midsize business services. Its first salvos: hosted backup and online storage. The new Symantec Protection Network services carry monthly pricetags based on volume: $25/mo. gets you 5 gig of backup; $38 delivers 10 gig of storage. Additional volume will be priced incrementally.

First three months of the service is free if you sign up by the end of April, although to use Online Storage for Backup Exec (however good the services are, the company could use some marketing help with its product names) you must be running Backup Exec 12 for Windows Server.

If you are -- or if the price looks competitive enough with your current backup/storage/restore/recovery tools to make change worthwhile -- Symantec's new move could be a move in your direction.

bMighty ANTenna's take on the services is here.
