Dell Launches Printers For SMBs

Dell announced 8 new black and white printers today, including 2 multifunction and 2 single function printers targeted to small and midsize businesses. With latest editions to the printer product line, the Round Rock, Texas-based vendor now offers 25 laser printers and continues to pursue market share in the SMB and enterprise printer markets.

As Dell seeks to establish a solid presence in the business printer market, its 3-point value proposition should appeal to SMBs in good times and bad: cost, reliability, and support. Dell claims an industry-leading total cost of printing with an emphasis on low-cost printing consumables (i.e., toner). Dell also boasts competitive duty cycle numbers and backs up its printers with 1 and 3-year warranties it claims exceed competitor offerings.

Commenting on the new products, Tim Peters, Vice President of Imaging at Dell, said, "These new multifunction printers brings businesses closer to a paperless office and transform digital collaboration in the workplace. Dell is focused on helping businesses operate efficiently and make the most of their IT so they can simplify day-to-day tasks, increase productivity, and focus on innovation."

The 5 series models in the latest Dell release are targeted to large enterprises with high-volume printing needs and corresponding budgets. While SMBs with big printing needs may wish to consider the models in the 5 series, the 2 new multifunction laser printers in the 3 series are designed for SMBs seek to deliver value without eliminating too many appealing features.

In the near future Dell will be introducing printer applications that can be installed prior to delivery or after purchase for specific industry applications such as legal, medical, and education that have specific formatting requirements. Though an additional cost, these apps may boost efficiency for some businesses. Right now, the multifunction printers allow users to bookmark frequently printed forms and documents for easy printing.

In addition to the multifunction laser printers, Dell also introduced 2 new single function laser printers. Ideal for desktop use, remote offices, or small volume locations, the small footprint models offer basic printing functionality.

The 1130 model is the successor to the current 1110, but the networked 1130n is brand new. Offering a networked single-function laser printer responds to user needs according to Steven Mast, senior product manager in Dell's Printing & Imaging division. He said, "Customers ask for wireless printers and think they want Wi-Fi, but what they really want is a networked printer they can plug into their wireless network and then print from laptops using a wireless connection."
