6 Cool Tech Internships You Wish You Had

Interns at top tech companies such as Facebook and Google enjoy many of the same perks available to full-time employees.

Dropbox
A fun intern perk at Dropbox is Parents' Weekend, during which the company flies interns' families to its San Francisco office, provides housing for everyone, and organizes a series of talks to explain Dropbox, its mission, and what the interns have been doing.
Fun gatherings aside, Dropbox provides interns with free housing in two-bedroom or one-bedroom apartments, shuttles to and from the office, music room with a grand piano and drumset, massages, haircuts, gym access, an in-house restaurant, and coverage for expenses such as phone plan and public transportation. Interns can experience Hack Week, during which the entire company halts their normal activities to work on anything they want.
Oh, and interns can set their Dropbox space quota for life.

@zerox203 I would say Google want only the best... and pick the best... as for now Google is a leader... and to be a Leader... you must have a best crew... how I see it...

Absolutely. I'd bet that the pool of college juniors applying for Google internships exceeds the amount of applications that other companies get from freshmen/sophomores/juniors combined.

The requirement looks fair enough. But I believe the bar for intership in Google would be rather high and the competition would be rather fierce.

Re: Apple vs Google
@David   That is a really good idea, there are countless numbers of qualified people out there who would welcome the opportunity.  And I dare say it could be a win-win for everyone concerned.

Re: Apple vs Google
@David. Not a bad idea at all. Actually, in the movie I mentioned down below, the two main characters are middle age guys. Of course, it's just a movie. So I went to check Google's internship page, and some of the minimum qualifications are:
  • Be currently enrolled in a 4-year BA/BS program, in any major, at a university in the United States.
  • Be a current undergraduate Junior. Freshman and Sophomores are encouraged to apply for student programs at google.com/students.

These requirements will let down a lot of people.

Re: 6 Cool Tech Internships You Wish You Had
@zerox203 thanks, and I agree that there is something to be said about the differences between these internships and the majority of intern programs.. While it's great for the few that can take breaks in Google's nap pods and eat free meals, the truth is that many interns still have to work for free in order to get the experience they need to get jobs.
