Wikis in War

This is interesting. I just read this post by Nick Carr (of IT Doesn't Matter fame) about the use of social networking in the military. The system was designed by DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) for soldiers to access a knowledge base of maps, photographs and other relevant information and is currently in use by U.S. soldiers in Iraq. Carr goes on to describe that "cheap, simple web-based systems are also easily available to insurgent and guerrilla forces" which means the use of these tools is increasingly becoming strategic in wartime intelligence - for both sides. Who knew that social tools would one day play such an active and strategic role in combat. So Nick, maybe IT Does Matter after all?
