Xerox Palo Alto Research Center has developed a Java-based program designed to simplify and democratize Web-based collaboration by letting all members of a designated group edit Web pages even if they lack HTML skills. The program, Sparrow Web, uses a black triangle icon to indicate which Web-page sections can be edited. When users click on the triangle, a dialog box appears, letting them edit a paragraph of text, a table of figures, or other individual elements of a page. The program's templates take care of the formatting.
