Our friends over at VARBusiness concentrate on companies selling to small and midsize companies, which occasionally leads to insights about those resellers customers. Here's one: A recent survey of resellers suggests smaller companies may not be as "cheap" as they used to be when it comes to IT purchases.According to the CMP Channel Quarterly Business Spending Survey more than half of small and midsize companies expect to boost their IT spending over the next year. And 60 percent of those will ratchet up their IT budgets by more than 10 percent, with some 27% planning a more than 20% hike in IT investments. Only 6 percent said they expect to cut IT spending.

The survey cited network and client security, archiving and backup, network infrastructure, and acounting/supply chain apps, and mobility as among the top areas for IT investment.

But here's what I found most encouraging: "62 percent of small businesses polled strongly agreed with the statement 'technology is something that can create a genuine competitive advantage for my company.' "
