Trapeze Upgrades Mobility System
New software includes 3-D modeling to provide a better view of a wireless LAN.

Wireless LAN vendor Trapeze Networks Inc. on Monday released a major upgrade of its flagship Mobility System, consisting of both hardware and software that allows businesses to deploy, manage, and optimize a wireless LAN.
Changes in the Mobility System Software 2.0 include the ability to more easily locate wireless switches and access points, make changes remotely, and set up access points; better support for third-party access points; and support for power-over-Ethernet technology. A new version of the RingMaster software supports 3-D modeling, so users can view their networks within a three-dimensional model of their building, letting them assess coverage and find interfering nodes.
New hardware includes the eight-port MX-8 switch, designed for smaller deployments. It's priced at $2,995 and is shipping now. The new MX-400 switch is designed for deployment in data centers, is priced at $21,995, and ships next quarter.
A new starter kit starts at $6,995 and includes one MX-8, four 802.11a/b/g Mobility access points, and a RingMaster license.
