Americans are going gaga over gadgets and technology for holiday buying this year.

Best Buy, which offers what it calls a Holiday Trend Index, says that 76 percent of Americans will give a "tech" gift this year.

A report from the NPD Group shows that during "Black Friday," the label retailers have given for the day after Thanksgiving, consumer notebook sales exceeded the sales of TVs for the first time. Total fourth quarter worldwide sales of notebooks are expected by analyst firm Gartner to be some 22 percent over last year's sales.

Reuters reported today that about 10 million digital cameras will be sold in the U.S. this year during the fourth quartner holiday season, which is a 35 percent increase from the same period last year.

Some 13.3 million people visited online stores on "Black Friday," according to Nielsen/NetRatings -- a 26 percent increase over shopping on the previous Friday.
