TECH STOCKS: Investors Pull Back
Tech stocks took some hits as the markets cooled following Tuesday's gains.
Investors played it close to the vest Wednesday, pulling back from the previous day's big rally and keeping the major indexes close to unchanged.
Techs were one of the sectors that took it on the chin. Nokia fell 2.7%, or 47 cents, to $17.12; VA Software fell 2.6%, or 9 cents, to $3.39; Ericsson fell 1.6%, or 26 cents, to $16.02; Motorola fell 1.2%, or 16 cents, to $13.17; and Texas Instruments fell 0.9%, or 24 cents, to $27.68.
Our InformationWeek 100 fell 1.1%, or 3.30 points, to 297.12. The Nasdaq composite index fared better, losing only 0.2%, or 2.96 points, to 1,921.33. The Nasdaq-100 tracking stock rose 0.2%, or 6 cents, to $34.91, on volume of 68 million shares.
Less tech-heavy indexes finished in the black. The Dow rose 0.2%, or 15.70 points, to 10,145.26, and the S&P 500 rose 0.1%, or 1.35 points, to 1,076.48.
