Tandberg Data introduced RDX FileKeeper, "always on" backup software for use with its RDX QuikStor cartridge-based storage systems, as well as new cartridges with 500 GB capacity. The RDX QuikStor, aimed at SMB backup needs, uses removable cartridges to offer, in the company's words, "the benefits of tape -- reliability, portability, archive life, and low cost -- with the performance, speed, random access, and ease of use of hard disk technology." The new FileKeeper software will automatically configure cartridges for system backup, continuous backup of user files, or both.

"Research has shown that 40 percent of SMBs don't back up their data at all, and 60 percent of all data is stored on PC desktops and laptops," says Bharat Kumar, vice president of marketing and development at Tandberg Data. "A plug-and-play, 'ruggedized' device that offers CDP, automatically, will be able to prevent disastrous data loss."

The RDX FileKeeper software will come bundled with all RDX QuikStor drive kits. An RDX QuikStor with a 500GB cartridge, including the FileKeeper software, lists for $699; with an 80GB cartridge, $299. A 500GB cartridge by itself is $499.Tandberg press release
