Still in Limbo: AT&T's Free Wi-Fi Promise for iPhone Users

Reports that AT&T has finally made good on its promise to offer iPhone users free access to 17,000-plus Wi-Fi hotspots are not true. Or, more accurately, no longer true.Earlier today, a page on AT&T's Web site was up with the message "we are proud to offer iPhone customers free access to the nation's largest Wi-Fi hotspot network." That page now redirects to the company's site map.
"We have not made any announcement regarding free Wi-Fi and iPhone," an AT&T spokesman told Ars Technica. "The Web page was posted in error and is being removed."
No word on when the service will become reality. The announcement has already had a few false starts dating back to May.Ars Technica, MacNN
