Motorola Teases CES Tablet Launch
Motorola published a video on Monday that indicates it will use the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show to launch its first Android Honeycomb tablet device.
The video is very tastefully done. It takes place in a museum, and first pans to an Egyptian hieroglyphic tablet. After hovering there for a moment, overlaid text says, "Good graphics, but weight makes for poor portability."
The camera then moves down the hall to stone tablets that look similar to those where the 10 Commandments were etched. Again, Motorola tells us, "Excellent durability, but zero flexibility (can't edit)."
Next is the Rosetta Stone, which Motorola labels, "Multi-lingual support, but low resolution screen." The camera then changes angles and sweeps over to a Mayan tablet. The text tells us that this tablet has, "Successful Latin American distribution, but rumored 2012 self-destruct feature."
Then things get a bit more interesting. The video moves on to the iPad, which is pokes fun of by saying, "It's like a giant iPhone, but...it's like a giant iPhone." Then it pans over to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which it similarly skewers by saying, "Android OS, but...Android OS for a phone."
Last, the video takes us to a device that is hidden under a cloth. Then a bee shows up and starts to buzz. If you take the sum of all the over-laid text, we can assume that Motorola's tablet is going to be durable, have a high-rez screen, can edit documents, and will have Android Honeycomb, which is a tablet-optimized version of Android. All this will come to pass at the 2011 CES trade show, which kicks off January 6.
