Markets Bounce Back

Stocks opened higher and stayed in the black as investors went bargain hunting.

Stocks opened higher on Tuesday and stayed that way throughout the day as investors went shopping for good buys following Monday's sell-off.

Tech stocks rallied strongly. Our InformationWeek 100 closed as the highest percentage gainer for the day. It closed up 4.31, or 1.5%, to end at 301.96. The Nasdaq rose 21.18, or 1.1%, to close at 1,897.82. The Nasdaq tracking stock was up 38 cents, or 1.1%, to close at $34.42 on lower-than-average volume of about 87 million shares.

The Dow Jones industrials and S&P 500 also posted gains. The Dow closed at 9,968.51, up 61.60, or 0.6% for the day. The S&P 500 closed up 7.4, or 0.7%, to end at 1,091.53.
