Increasingly, small and medium businesses are examining using social media tools to enhance their marketing efforts. Jive Software has enhanced its solution so it offers more robust integration with Facebook and smartphones.Jive Software unveiled new releases of its Jive Social Media Engagement (v.4.5) and Jive Mobile (v.4.5) development tools. Jive Social Media Engagement enables companies to monitor and respond in real-time to conversations taking place on social sites about their products or services. The new release delivers Facebook fan page monitoring. Companies can monitor, track and respond to every relevant conversation on a Facebook fan page without having to set up their own key word searches. Unlike most other social media monitoring tools, Jive Social Media Engagement provides unlimited keyword tracking.

Increasingly, employees are using smartphones to access social media sites. Jive Mobile works with a variety of mobile devices, including Apple's iPhone and iPad, Android systems, and Research in Motion's BlackBerry devices. The latest release features support for mobile web browsers, which are becoming more common in these devices.

Jive has focused on an emerging market, social media monitoring tools. While most of the emphasis has been on consumer based social networking tools, the company has concentrated on building tools for businesses. To date, small and medium businesses have been slow to take up the social networking charge. Many do not understand how these tools work and are not sure how they can help their business. If that mindset begins to change, Jive may have a strong story to tell.
