J.D. Edwards & Co. (JDEC-Nasdaq) CFO Rick Allen credits cost-cutting in the face of dwindling revenue for a pro forma profit of $3.7 million for its first quarter ended Jan. 31, compared with a $3 million pro forma loss in the same quarter last year. License revenue was $43.9 million for the quarter, compared with $82.7 million a year ago. Services revenue increased to $156.6 million, compared with $135 million a year ago. Pro forma profit excludes one-time items.
