Documentum ECM Suite 6.5 Delivers Solid Web 2.0 Features

It's good news all around from EMC this week, with the one-two punch of strong second quarter earnings and the release of the feature-packed Documentum Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Suite Version 6.5.EMC's second quarter revenues of $3.67 billion grew 18% from the same period last year, and their revenue for the Content Management and Archiving unit, which includes their Documentum product line among other products, also rose 18% to $204 million.

That's certainly good for EMC, but the significant enhancements and Web 2.0 features of Documentum ECM Suite Version 6.5 are good for their customers. They've made numerous improvements and additions to the suite, benefiting content creators, workgroups, and IT and administrative teams.

On the content creation side, a number of both updated and new modules have been introduced to simplify creation and management of web pages, enhance collaborative team workspaces and improve Documentum's media asset handling capabilities. They've also added slimmed down and web-based versions of a number of clients for accessing Documentum functions.

From an IT and administration perspective, improvements include enhanced server performance with the Documentum High-Volume Server, which is intended to improve scalability and accommodate applications with heavy transactional loads. They've also made improvements to business process and workflow creation, and added full XML support for content.

All and all, it appears that 6.5 is going to do an impressive job of balancing new features, scalability and security, pleasing end users and IT teams alike.
