Managing data center resources has never been easy for small and medium businesses. DirectPointe, a nationwide provider of managed IT services, has taken to the clouds to deliver a new monitoring solutionDirectPointe's service monitors application infrastructure and desktop performance. The service is based on Quest Software's enterprise-level management and monitoring tools and Wendia's Point of Business (POB) Service Desk management (SDM) and ticketing system. By combining the two, DirectPoint's goal is to help companies monitor their networks, servers, PCs, and applications more efficiently.

Performance monitoring has been a bugaboo for SMBs. The tools used to determine how well different components are functioning are often expensive and difficult to deploy. A cloud based service could clear those hurdles.

Whether or not the DirectPointe service will garner many customers is unclear. Large companies, such as HP and IBM, have been moving more aggressively into the performance monitoring market, and the DirectPointe troika will be hard pressed to match such clout. DirectPointe is a Utah based managed IT services provider, Quest Software is used by more than 100,000 customers worldwide, and Wendia, which is based in Switzerland, has been in business since 1999.
