With the beta release of eTrust Web Access Control, Computer Associates International Inc. is preparing to leap into the crowded access management market, which already includes Baltimore Technologies, Entrust, Netegrity, and Securant. CA's Web Access Control supports various authentication methods, such as passwords and smart cards, and authorizes access to Web-based applications.

ETrust Web Access Control supports CA's Jasmine Portal and IBM's WebSphere Portal, and includes an embedded X.500 directory. The dynamic personalization features let companies customize the information that users see based on who they are and their business role, whether that be employee, business partner, or customer.

Pete Lindstrom, security analyst with the Hurwitz Group, says Computer Associates' strong position in the mainframe security market may position it to do well against the more established players in the access management market, such as Netegrity Inc.

CA also revealed the general availability of eTrust PKI, which was released in beta on April 10. ETrust PKI provides public key infrastructure integration with enterprise systems, including strong authentication and privacy for eTrust Single Sign-On and eTrust Web Access Control. Both eTrust Single Sign-On and Web Access Control can be fully integrated with eTrust PKI, says Barry Keyes, VP of marketing, security solutions for Computer Associates. position in the mainframe security market may position it to do well against the more established players in the access management market, such as Netegrity.
