Transport Dreams For Foot-Weary CES Walkers
The Consumer Electronics Show is not a journey for the faint-hearted. You can walk miles on the show floors. So it's no surprise that after a couple of days of footsore product-spotting, the products that began to look most interesting were transportation-related -- like the motorized snowshoes and the 13-mph beer cooler.

So it's no surprise that after a couple of days of footsore product-spotting, the products that began to look most interesting were transportation-related -- like the motorized snowshoes and the 13-mph beer cooler. The Cruzin Cooler is a powered beer cooler that holds 250 pounds of rider and 24 12-ounce cans plus ice. It's available in electric or gas-powered versions for prices that begin at $400. Available options include seats, covers, trailer hitches, and "Coolagons," nonpowered coolers you can tow behind your Cruzin Cooler for those times when you need extra cargo capacity.

If you're more athletically inclined, iShoes will get you where you're going standing up. These $600 gizmos look like high-tech triangular snowshoes with wheels at the corners, and work something like self-propelled rollerskates. They weigh 12 pounds, and fully charged, they'll move you about 12 mph and go for 3 miles or so. Inventor Ilya Kaganovich demonstrates them in this video:
If all you want do is find a place to sit down, the BKA Photo booth had the perfect solution -- the Walkstool, a folding three-legged stool you can carry with you. The Walkstool comes in three sizes that range in price from about $70 to $90. The largest is 26 inches tall when fully extended, weighs under 2 pounds, and is rated to support 550 pounds. (The rating is conservative -- there's a video on the Walkstool Web site that shows five Walkstools supporting a Volvo.)
The solution to finding a place to sit down: carry it with you. The Walkstool is lightweight and folds up compactly, yet the largest model supports 550 pounds or more. |
