Are the new digital services wolrth the loss of privacy? Millions vote, yes.
If these devices are collecting information about us, do we want them in our homes. Good question. But if Google is using Gmail to collect information about its users, do you decide to dispense with email? You most certainly do not. The value of the services that come with the information collection is so overpowering that people disregard the collection. It feels relatively harmless even though it is intruding more and more into our private lives. It's a pact with the devil. To participate in the digital age -- say, make full use of Facebook -- you give up personal information to marketers and who knows what other collectors, who use it for their own purposes. So far, a majority of people feel the trade-off is worth it. I have reservations about that.
