Cloud Connect Highlights At Interop Las Vegas

The Cloud Connect conference at Interop can help you wring the most value from your cloud deployments today and prepare you for future developments.

Cloud services are now a regular part of the IT toolbox, and organizations are seeking ways to take full advantage of public and private clouds.

Cloud Connect at Interop Las Vegas brings together practitioners and industry experts to share insights on cloud opportunities and challenges, and explore emerging technologies that will transform the industry.

The following highlights of Cloud Connect include must-see workshops and sessions. Check out the full program to see how the cloud can help you accelerate your business.

Container Crash Course

Containers are the latest buzz in cloud computing. This half-day workshop explores the technology of containers, including similarities and differences with virtual machines. It will present use cases and appropriate workloads, describe how to integrate containers into a cloud strategy, and examine options for operations and management. Attendees will also get recommendations for how to start testing containers.

Designing Infrastructure for Private Clouds

Taught by popular instructor Ivan Pepelnjak, this half-day workshop delves into the design aspects of private clouds so that you can go beyond server virtualization to the flexibility, elasticity and self-service aspects that yield real value.

Ivan will explore the importance of orchestration software, examine storage aspects of a private cloud, and drill into network service implementation. Attendees will come away able to evaluate emerging private cloud technologies and select the right infrastructure for deployment.

Beyond the Cloud: Technology and Business in a Composable Future

The Cloud Connect conference kicks off with a visionary keynote by Jonathan Murray (@Adamathus) who’ll look into the future of cloud computing, where code will be liberated from constraints of time and place, opening the door to a real-time, insight-driven, composable future.

Murray will outline the broad implications of this composable future, where businesses fully unlock the value of their core capabilities and new businesses are constructed from parts available from a global service marketplace. Murray will discuss the technological, operational, and strategic challenges enterprises will need to overcome to survive and profit from this coming transformation.

The Cloud Whisperer: Overcoming Your IT Staff’s Fear of Cloud Computing

Business units are ready to buy into cloud—and lots of them have already signed up. It's IT that often has to be dragged into a cloud project. IT objections include security, maturity, lock-in, or the worry that cloud makes them redundant (and thus unemployed).

In this session, CIO Jonathan Feldman presents 'cloud whisperer' techniques to soothe IT's fears and help bring them on board. He’ll share real-world stories about staff fears, and show how IT leadership worked around these fears to create significant benefit for the organization.

Hybrid Ops: Managing Your Applications Across Infrastructure Platforms

Dan Belcher, lead product manager of logging and monitoring at Google, will share hybrid cloud scenarios from his experience at Google and discuss the operational challenges of each. He’ll also share best practices that attendees can use to run their own hybrid applications most effectively, including monitoring and profiling to understand differences in application performance across cloud platforms.

Planning for Failure

Only a few things in life are certain: death, taxes, and infrastructure failures. Weston Jossey, Head of Operations at Tapjoy, can't grant you immortality or file your taxes, but he can help you plan for failure. Learn how Tapjoy transformed itself from a company that frequently suffered 20+ hours of downtime a quarter to one that averages 99.95% availability.

Weston will walk through Tapjoy's experiences inside of AWS, as well as its private OpenStack deployment, and talk about how lessons learned in one can be carried over to the other.
