Intel Chairman To Host Fly-Fishing Trip For eBay Winner

All of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the National Forest Foundation.

A lucky bidder could win a fly-fishing and horseback-riding trip on a Montana ranch retreat with Intel chairman Craig Barrett.

An auction for the visit to Barrett's Triple Creek Ranch opened Monday on eBay with minimum bids of $25,000. It will close April 26. The auction was timed to coincide with Earth Day, and all of the proceeds will benefit the National Forest Foundation.

Barrett, the vice chairman of the foundation's board of directors, will host a retreat for the top bidder and a guest at the base of the Bitterroot Range. The winner will get a three-day, two-night stay in a private cabin at the luxury ranch, a gourmet dinner with Barrett, and a day of horseback riding and fly-fishing in the Bitterroot National Forest.

"Craig is a wonderful individual who combines excellent stewardship of his own ranch with a passion for helping the National Forest Foundation and the Forest Service," William Possiel, president of the foundation, said in prepared statement.

Barrett, a San Francisco native, has spent more than 30 years in the technology business. Before that, he was an associate professor in Stanford University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

He serves on several boards and committees, including the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association, the United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development, and the President's Advisory Committee for Trade and Policy Negotiations.

He enjoys fly-fishing for salmon, trout, and bonefish as a means to unwind.

The foundation described the auction as "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet with a captain of business and philanthropy" for a bidder with an "outdoor spirit and business mind."

Potential bidders must register and gain prequalification. There were no bidders as of Wednesday afternoon.
