In Short: XML Runs Amok

XML data has started to clog enterprise network traffic and bog down processors, according to a report from IT-market-intelligence firm ZapThink. XML traffic on corporate networks will grow from approximately 15% in 2004 to just under 48% by 2008, the report estimates, and Web-services traffic will dominate XML traffic on the network by end of next year. To solve the problem, the report says, companies should deploy XML-specific solutions, including XML appliances, specialized chip-based solutions, and software approaches that allow XML-related functionality without network degradation.
