In Short: Oracle Tackles Small And Midsize Market

Oracle has launched in North America its E-Business Suite Special Edition, a preconfigured enterprise-resource-planning suite aimed at small- and midsize businesses that has been available in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region for two years. It will tap almost 3,000 channel partners to help penetrate the market. "We can sit around and wait for things to happen there, or we can create new opportunities," Oracle president Charles Phillips said last week.

The company will add more partners during the next year to serve this growing market, Phillips said. Oracle has cut the entry-level price of the software to $149 per user, or $49.95 per CPU, for a maximum of two processors. More than 3,400 customers use this software, and Phillips said Dell is bundling the product on its servers.
