In Short: BPM Standard On Way

To bring structure to the amorphous area of business-performance management, a group of software vendors and analyst firms is developing what it calls a standard framework of BPM methodologies and processes. Business-performance management combines planning and data analysis to track a company's progress toward meeting its strategic goals. Meta Group says sales of BPM-type applications reached $1.1 billion last year, but vendors define business-performance management differently. Last week, the group issued a standard definition, and a first draft of the framework is expected later this spring. The group includes BPM Partners, the Data Warehousing Institute, Hyperion Solutions, IBM, Meta Group, and SAP.
