A small town in northern Idaho renamed itself Secretsanta.com in the hope of a big payoff from a company planning a documentary on the name change.

Formerly called Santa, the town will now be named after an online gift exchange event planner. Officials of Santa's water board, the only deciding body in the burg, voted to change the name Monday.

Santa, which lies south of Coeur d'Alene, and is so small it doesn’t even appear on the state's online maps, is only the most recent rural spot to change its name for online lucre.

At the height of the dot-com boom in 2000, Halfway, Ore. changed its moniker for a year to Half.com after an online retailer that was later snapped up by eBay. Halfway was paid $75,000 and received 20 computers for its schools in exchange for the name switch.

Terms of Santa's arrangement with the documentary film company were not disclosed by the town's water board.
