Avistar has announced thatit has entered into a series of agreements with IBM to integrate Avistar's bandwidth management software and related intellectual property with IBM's Lotus Sametime UC offerings (more details will come next week). This is good news for IBM's customers, since adding UC capabilities to any network necessarily ups the demands on that network--especially if you're enabling desktop videoconferencing. With its experience in desktop videoconferencing, Avistar has developed bandwidth management technology to help IT departments ensure a high-quality experience for all users, regardless of where they are and what network they're using. Research tells us this is a key issue for many companies, as IT managers are rightly worried about the effect "videoconferencing for all" will have on their networks.Throw in the existing pressure on Voice over IP performance, and any additional uses (web conferencing, social networking, etc.), and you've a got a recipe for disaster. Using the right bandwidth management application can ease that burden significantly, and it's something all IT managers should do as they deploy UC.
