HP To Include Baidu Search Engine In PCs Sold In China

Baidu, the largest search engine in China, will be available through the embedded Internet Explorer browser home page or address search.

Hewlett-Packard Co. on Monday said Pavilion and Presario computers sold in China would include the Baidu search engine, starting in October.

Baidu, the largest search engine in China, would be available through the embedded Internet Explorer browser homepage or address search, eliminating the need to navigate to the Baidu Web site. In addition, the Baidu homepage would be available through a shortcut key.

In the first quarter, China's homegrown Baidu accounted for nearly 44 percent of all online searches in China, seconded by Yahoo with 21 percent, according to Chinese consulting firm Analysys International. Google was third with 13 percent.

China is currently the second largest Internet market in the world, and is expected to eventually surpass first-place United States.
