HP To Cut Prices On NT Workstations
Hewlett-Packard says it will cut prices this week onseveral of its Windows NT workstations. The entry-level
Kayak XA, with a 350-MHz Pentium II, 64 Mbytes of memory,
and a 4.3-Gbyte hard drive, will be priced at $1,820.
The XA is designed for spreadsheets, financial modeling,
and basic digital-content creation.
HP's mid-range model, the XA-s, will feature a 350-MHz
Pentium II processor, 64 Mbytes of memory, and a 6.4-Gbyte
hard drive, for $2,200. That model is also available with
two processors of up to 450-MHz.
The XU model is for higher-end use such as software
development, LAN administration, 2-D digital-content
animation, and 2-D mechanical design. The basic model with a
400-MHz Pentium II, 64 Mbytes of memory, a 4.5-Gbyte Ultra
SCSI hard drive, and a Matrox G2000 graphics card, will be
priced at $3,130.
The XU will also be available with or upgradable to dual
450-MHz Pentium II or Xeon processors. It can also
accommodate up to 2 Gbytes of Synchronous Dynamic RAM with
error-correction code and a 9-Gbyte Ultra SCSI hard drive.
Several other optional graphics cards will also be
available.
