Google Launches Blog And Site To Showcase Its Mac Services

Google's Mac software includes widgets for checking the company's Web mail, posting blogs, and checking search history.

Google has launched a blog to keep Mac users abreast of new services for the Apple Computer machine.

In addition, the search engine giant has created a new site to showcase all of Google's applications for the Mac.

The Google Mac Blog, launched Monday, provides all the "news, tips and insider stories about Macs at Google," the company said in its blog.

Google's support of the Mac and its OS X operating environment is part of its often-stated mission "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful," the company said. The Mac, experts say, accounts for less than 4 percent of the computer market in the United States.

Google, however, may have taken at least some pleasure in hiring a Mac engineering team who would be building software for a Microsoft Windows competitor. Microsoft and Google are intense rivals in the online advertising market.

Google's Mac software included widgets for checking the company's Web mail, posting to blog and check search history. In addition, there's an application for receiving alerts of new Gmail messages and calendar events.

Google's online video and satellite mapping service, called Google Earth, also fully support the Mac.
