EMC Thinks Smaller

EMC Corp on Monday shipped a pair of midtier storage-management software packages aimed at small and midsize businesses.

EMC VisualSRM and EMC VisualSAN will give administrators in smaller shops tools for centrally managing storage environments, particularly in Storage Area Network systems, to better make use of their limited resources, EMC says. Both products are available now.

VisualSRM, which comes with a price tag starting at $2,000, lets administrators set policies for moving, archiving, compressing, and deleting files based on criteria such as the time the data was last accessed, and tracks storage consumption so that capacity thresholds can be enforced.

VisualSAN, priced beginning at $6,000, serves as the common interface for monitoring all SAN devices in an organization. It includes features for capturing the state of a SAN configuration for both reference and later replication.
