E-Signatures Reach The Design Room

Engineering and design firms or departments looking to slash production time may be interested in electronic-signature software maker Silanis Technology Inc.'s new application, ApproveIt CAD Desktop. The software provides engineers with electronic signature and approval management for Autodesk AutoCAD 2000I drawings, as well as Word, Excel, Acrobat, and other documents.

The software will be available in May for $299 per license. Firms may find considerable cost savings in having legally binding electronic signatures attached to the AutoCAD file, rather than having to send hard copies to remote offices for multiple approval signatures.

ApproveIt CAD Desktop works by embedding each electronic signature within the drawing, so drawings can be sent electronically. Every time the drawing file is accessed, it contains the previously applied electronic signatures. If anyone tampers with the contents of the drawing, the signatures will become instantly and visibly invalidated.

According to Silanis, there's no limit to the number of signatures that can be added to the AutoCAD files.
