Sybase Inc. will bundle Savant Corp.'s performancediagnostic technology with the next major release ofSybase's flagship database system, under a deal to bedisclosed Monday by the two companies.
Under the partnership, Sybase and Savant will integrateSavant's Q Diagnostic Center with Sybase's Adaptive ServerEnterprise. Q Diagnostic Center, with its advanced graphicalinterface, provides system managers with a view of databaseand application operations and warns of potentialavailability problems or performance bottlenecks. The toolwill be bundled with ASE 12, which is scheduled to ship inthe second half of this year.
Compared with competitors such as Oracle, Sybase has longbeen weak in providing managers with performance data, saysSteve Foote, a senior VP with the Hurwitz Group market-research firm. He says Sybase and Savant have had to buildmore calls into ASE to provide Q Diagnostic Center withperformance data. "Sybase recognized Savant's leadership inthe visualization of performance data," he says. "Now therewill be a wealth of more performance information" for Sybaseusers.
