Obama Speech Praises Tech, Ignores Small Businesses

In Obama's highly anticipated inaugural address, he once again turned to technology to solve our problems, but failed to mention small businesses. bMighty.com dissects the speech and presents a slide show of what the new administration will mean to technology and smaller businesses.

In Obama's highly anticipated inaugural address, he once again turned to technology to solve our problems, but failed to mention small businesses. bMighty.com dissects the speech and presents a slide show of what the new administration will mean to technology and smaller businesses. As K.C. Jones pointed out in her piece on the inaugural address, tech was a big part of Obama's message today. Here's the quote that said it all:

We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories.

You can see the full text of the speech here, but as I noted in a post on bMighty.com, there was very little in the speech for smaller companies. All I heard was some praise for the power of entrepreneurship:

Greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted -- for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk takers, the doers, the makers of things...

So what will the Obama administration mean for smaller companies? This bMighty slideshow -- Inauguration Day: What Businesses Can Expect From The Obama Administration -- lays out the key areas, from the Small Business Administration to how he'll deal with privacy and security issues.

The markets were spooked by a lack of specifics, falling 332 points, but ChannelWeb says there are things in Obama's stimulus package to help small business.

And if you don't believe in Obama's commitment to technology, check out the changes at WhiteHouse.gov.
